I. GENERAL INFORMATION

The Vietnam Center for Economics and Policy Research of the VNU University of Economics and Business was established in July 2007.

The center is associated with a network of domestic and international scientists, researchers trained in developed countries and with experience of working for  Government agencies, major universities and research institutes.

III. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Functions:

- The Vietnam Center for Economics and Policy Research is operated under the VNU University of Economics and Business. The Center is an income generating administrative agency, having full legal status with its own stamp and bank accounts (including a foreign currency account).

- The Vietnam Center for Economics and Policy Research performs the function of implementing research, training, consulting activities and organizing science conferences as well as other professional activities.

2. Responsibilities:

- Implementing science seminars, conferences, policy dialogues in the fields of macro-economy and policy.

- Developing a long-term strategic plan and an annual plan both of which are submitted to the Rector for approval.

- Organizing research activities in economics and policy by embedding basic and applied research.

- Consulting on economics and policy making for domestic and international, individuals and organizations.

- Implementing joint cooperative research projects.

- Participating in graduate and postgraduate training on development economics according to functional missions.            

- Collaborating with the Research & Partnership Development Office to propose suitable research programs on macro-economics of the University.

- Collaborating with other units to implement the macro-economics research program missions of the University.

- - Implementing other missions as assigned by the Rector and according to the Decision 1749/QD-ĐKHT relating to the center’s operation and responsibilities.

IV. OBJECTIVES AND OPERATION PLAN

1. Objectives:

 - Short term: By 2012 the Center will be known as a strongly functioning Vietnam Center for Economics and Policy Research in Vietnam and the region.

 - Long term: The Center will become a strongly functioning Vietnam Center for Economics and Policy Research in the region undertaking large-scale research programs with great effect (the Center will clearly establish its own School of Research).

2. Operation plans:

•  Stage 1 (2008 - 2009): Establishing and strengthening

•  Stage 2 (2010 - 2013): Developing and expanding

•  Stage 3 (from 2013): Affirming brand name
