The Faculty of Development Economics, VNU University of Economics and Business was established on 3rd March, 2008. The Faculty of Development Economics is currently comprised of 16 experts and lecturers in 3 divisions. The three divisions of the Faculty integrate various and advanced interdisciplinary subjects. Since 2008, the Faculty of Development Economics has stabilized its organization and operation, enhanced its cooperation with important strategic partners and prepared its human resources for development and progress in the coming years.

The Faculty of Development Economics has delivered training in the Bachelor program in Development Economics since the academic year 2008-2009. The Faculty has recently started a double major training program of “Resource & Environment Economics and Sustainable Development” with the VNU University of Natural Science and planned to enroll new students in the academic year 2009 - 2010.

In the coming period, the Faculty plans to open Doctoral and Master Programs in development economics. The Faculty will also open the short-term training courses in development economics. To improve training quality, the Faculty will cooperate with domestic training and recruiting institutions, especially international training institutes to implement joint training programs. One of the priorities of the Faculty is to complete the program systems, curricula, and reference materials in accordance with modern, up-to-date orientation and in order to achieve international standards and cooperation in training.

The Faculty of Development Economics step by step undertakes scientific research in economy and development, participates in implementing research projects at levels of the UEB, the VNU and at the National level, cooperates with units inside and outside of the VNU to implement the research projects and cooperates with experts and international research institutions. The research outcomes of the Faculty will affirm the high quality of the research, have scientific significance and connect directly with the training process. Research activities requested by domestic and international organizations and individuals will be implemented with the highest quality.

In 2010, a research team led by Dr. Vu Quoc Huy, Dean of Faculty of Development Economics, was selected to participate in WTO Chair Program (WCP). This event has great significance for the development of the VNU University of Economics and Business. The university is one of 14 universities around the world offered sponsorship by WTO in 2010. This reward helps the university have the opportunity to improve its research, policy analysis and training in the field of international economic integration - an area of importance in the development of Vietnam and also one of the priorities in teaching and research at VNU UEB. Being sponsored by WTO provides opportunities for UEB to connect and exchange with the research network of international universities and to improve the quality of UEB’s training and scientific research.

Directly under the responsibility of the VNU University of Economics and Business, the active and harmonious development of The Faculty of Development Economics is very important in improving the scientific position of the UEB, and contributing to solving theoretical and practical issues relating to Vietnam in the process of development and international integration.

By 2015, the Faculty of Development Economics will become one of the leading institutions of Vietnam in training and studying issues relating to development economics.

By 2022, the Faculty of Development Economics, VNU University of Economics and Business will be ranked in Asia in terms of training and studying issues relating to development economics.
