Bachelor training program in Development Economics

I. Training program:

1. General information

  • Major: Development Economics

  • Degree: Bachelor

  • Duration: 4 years of full- time study

  • Enrollment: Candidates who are high school graduates participate in the annual entrance examination have to meet the entry requirements of VNU, University of Economics and Business and the Development Economics major.

2. Program objectives:

Students who graduate from Bachelors of Development Economics program are able to perform the profession of analyzing, evaluating in enterprises, organizations; research and teaching interdisciplinary economics issues in governmental agencies, higher education institutes, organizations of development; participate in higher education to gain experience to become analysts, plan makers or leaders in the field of development economics.

3. Career orientation for Bachelor of Development Economics:

Group 1 –  Development economic policy consultant or analyst: Having capability to work in the State’s managing agencies at central and local levels; can undertake the position of analysis assistant, assessing the impact of economic growth, planning assistant assistant socio-economic development and consulting solutions and policies for development, particularly in the field of public policy, sustainable development, future prospects may become analysts, consultants, policy makers and managers.

Group 2 – Project officer: Having capability to work at development projects, organizations and enterprises; can undertake analysis assistant position of socio-economic situation; development project assistant; assistant of synthesis, research and analysis and participate in the making of development policy; future prospects may become project specialist or management.

Group 3 – Researcher and lecturer: Able to research and teach at universities, research and educational institutions; can undertake the task such as: to participate in economic research and development, public policy, economic environment, sustainable development, teaching assistant, lecturers of economics, economic development...; future prospects can become researchers, senior lecturers, managers.

II, Program outcome-based standard:

1. Knowledge competence:

  • Applying knowledge of mathematics, natural science and basic economics on dealing with theoretical and practical issues relating to their major.

  • Applying the basic knowledge of development economics to explane the raising issues in the development of economy.

  • Applying the knowledge of subjects such as public expenditure, public selection... to analyze and assess the isues that arise in public polic; employing knowledge of environmental management, environmental accounting... to analyze and evaluate the interaction of the environment for economic development.Employing the knowledge of practice and probation to fulfill the assigned tasks.

  • Employing the theoretical and practical knowledge to analyze, synthesize and deal with specific research issues in development economics.

2. Skills:

2.1. Professional skills:

  • Having the capability of reasoning, thinking systematically; researching and solving issues in the fields of accounting - auditing.

  • Having professional reasoning skills, detecting and solving problems in the field of accounting - auditing.

  • Having the awareness of social context, external and organizational context to apply to accounting - auditing activities.

  • Having the ability to apply knowledge and skills into practice; initially forming the creativeness for career development.

2.2. Solf skills:

  • Having the ability to work independently and in team; self-learning and research, working due to plans and scientifically; having time management skill, individual assignment allocating.

  • Having good communication skills (presentation and negotiation skills in business; transaction skill via telephone, e-mail), communicate in English of 5.0 IELTS competence or higher.

  • Having ability to use Microsoft Office proficiently (Word, Excel, Power Point) and statistical software (SPSS, EViews, STATA...), internet and office equipment.

2.3. Personality:

  • Personality: Self-confident, active, patient, enthusiatic.
  • Professional morality: Having the passion for research and discovering knowledge, responsible.
  • Social morality: Law-abiding, working with mental discipline, positive lifestyle and attitude towards the community.

III. Conditions of program implementation:

  • Students are provided with personal account to register the credit, follow up the academic schedule, results and download the course outline from student Portal system; accessing the reference system and updated textbook and data at the Center for Information and Documentation - VNU and Documentation Office of the University of Economics and Business.

  • Training in credit; sophomores and juniors are sent to a probation course in enterprises or economic organizations.

  • Students participate in research activities, conferences, seminars, extra-curricular activities, short-term training courses on specialized professional and soft skills; having the opportunity to receive scholarships from other organizations.
