Joint Doctoral in Economics training program with Massey University, New Zealand


1. About Massey University

Massey University, founded in 1927, is a pubic school. It has three big campuses in the capital city of Wellington, Auckland and Palmerton City, New Zealand. Massey University continues to be ranked among the top three universities in New Zealand. Massey University is consistently ranked highly in the prestigious Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings, and within the top 500 world universities and the top 100 Asia-Pacific universities in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2009, Massey University earned accreditation from The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for its business school in 2009.

Massey University provides training programs from graduate to doctoral levels. The school’s strength is economics and finance. Massey University is characterised by high applicability of research and teaching programs in technology, applied science, and economics. Its business administration graduate program is accredited by the Committee on University Academic Programmes. Aims of the programs are to provide students with highly applicable knowledge in economics and finance, as well as necessary skills of experts. 

2. About the program:

The joint doctoral program will last 4 years, including 1.5 year at Massey University, 1.5 year in Vietnam and the final year at Massey University.

Research studens meeting the requirements and are accepted by the two university will be granted doctorate by Massey University.

Candidates wanting to joint the program and meeting the requirement are required to hand in application form at the University of Economics and Business, including research draft which will be considered and commented in paper. Basing on results from Massey University, the University of Economics and Business will ask for permission from the Ministry of Education and Training.

The program accepts five research students each year.

3. Enrollment conditions:

  • Having good dignity, good qualifications, good health and commitment to finish studying and return to work for appointing organization.

  • Master degree in the field.

  • 24 months experience in the suitable field (from the date of signing labour contract to the application date), excluding time of joining focus training program lasting one year and longer.

  • Not over 40.

  • At least one scientific research (paper published in scientific journals, or scientific report presented at scientific conference and recorded in summery record, or at least one scientific study at basic level and above which has been checked and taken over).

  • English language good enough to joint the program

  • Detail research draft (in English or Vietnamese).

  • Appointed by direct managing agency in paper.

4. Documents:

  • Personal statement confirmed by office;

  • 04 portrait photos 4x6cm;

  • 02 cover letter of studying abroad (according to form of Ministry of Education and Training);

  • 01 CV in Vietnamese contains sealed portrait photo confirmed by precinct of living place;

  • 01 CV in Englis;

  • Certified copy of birth certificate (in English and Vietnamese);

  • Certified copy of bachelor’s certificate and master degree (in Vietnamese and English;

  • Certified university and postgraduate transcripts (in Vietnamese and English;

  • Official document allowing candidates to joint doctoral program issued by his/her organization;

  • Recommendation letter by candidate’s management organization (in English);

  • Permanent employment decision or copy of labor contract (notarized);

  • Application form for international students (issued by Massey University);

  • Application letter (issued by Massey University);

  • Research draft specifying name and purposes of the project, methodology, time frame, projects expected contribution to the field. (in Vietnamese and English);

  • English language certificates TOEFL or IELTS (IELTS 6.5 with no mark below 6.0 or TOEFL 575 (paper-based test), TWE 4.0 or TOEFL 232 (computer-bases test), ER 4.0;

  • Scientific CV in English and Vietnamese (form regulated in Project 322);

  • Evidence of graduaton experience and other information.
